In 2014 Bulgari, a name emblematic of Italian excellence, celebrated its 130th anniversary. Emboldened by 2,700 years of Roman history, Bulgari honors its rich past with modern designs. Known for stylistic audacity and a penchant for color, Bulgari pieces are immediately recognizable.
Designing with the sensuality of volume, a love of linearity and a reverence for the art and architecture of Bulgari’s Greek and Roman roots, these iconic features are found in each of Bulgari’s creations. Harmonized with Rome’s ancient history, Bulgari incorporates the city’s symbolism while innovating its design for the future. Classic yet contemporary, Bulgari upholds its 130-year legacy with a timeless sense of exquisite beauty.
Originating in Rome, Bulgari was founded as a jewelry shop in 1884 by Greek silversmith Sotirio Bulgari. With passionate skill and vision, he set the stage for Bulgari to become a permanent emblem of Italian excellence. For the 130 years thereafter, Bulgari’s ceaseless creativity, formidable history of innovation and a bold pioneering spirit led the jewelry House to become a legend.
Bulgari is a name that has become synonymous with artisanal craftsmanship, avant-garde materials and unrivalled design. The Eternal City’s architectural beauty has long inspired the Italian jeweler: Bulgari reinterprets the majestic symbols of Rome with extraordinary editions of jewelry, watches, accessories and perfumes.
To honor its ancient Roman past, Bulgari integrated the original Latin “v,” an epigraph of the family name, engraving it above its flagship store in the grand renovation of 1934. Bulgari’s Roman address on the prestigious Via dei Condotti, leading up to the Spanish Steps, became both its home and source of inspiration. Rome remains the aesthetic reference for Bulgari, as it boasts a spectacular architectural backdrop.
With an unmatched vision of luxury, Bulgari’s origins at the Via dei Condotti flagship store hosted an international elite of artists, writers and actors during the ‘Dolce Vita’ years — the 1950s-60s — leading to Bulgari’s diversified presence today. The brand came to the attention of the global elite and hosted movie stars such as Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn, who engaged in passionate affairs with Bulgari jewels. Immediately recognizable for their powerful opulence, rich colors and sense of volume, Bulgari jewels soon became renowned among local bourgeois as well as the international high-society set.
Bulgari developed an overseas presence in the 1970s. It also began to expand the company vision, diversifying into the world of watchmaking and launching the now-iconic “BVLGARI∙BVLGARI” watch in 1975. The coveted watch was just the first of many, and in 1980 Bulgari founded the company Bulgari Time, in the watchmaking capital of Switzerland.
In 1992, Bulgari further diversified with the introduction of its first fragrance, Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert, establishing Bulgari Parfums in Switzerland. In 1996, Bulgari launched its highly successful collections of cosmopolitan accessories. In 2000, Bulgari Time’s capacities grew with the acquisition of specialized luxury watchmakers; Bulgari had thus evolved into a world-class watch manufacturer. With its unmatched standard for lavish lifestyle, the Bulgari Group expanded its vision to hotels and resorts, featuring contemporary luxury in the prestigious locations of Milan, Bali and London via exclusive design. In 2011, Bulgari was acquired by the luxury group LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moёt Hennessy), only enriching its potential.
Bulgari designs are nourished by deep Roman roots, entrenched in an inspired past. Honoring history, refined Greek and Roman motifs recall the art and architecture of Bulgari’s origins. Proudly representing the exquisite nature that is Italy, the Bulgari name has become synonymous with brilliant color, symbolic storytelling and unrivaled craftsmanship for 130 years. In all things Bulgari, magnificent luxury is key.
Color is often one of the most recognizable and iconic features of a Bulgari creation. Deviating from the traditional, diamond-based Parisian school of jewelry, Bulgari developed a bold and unprecedented style, exploring unusual color combinations such as rubies, emeralds and sapphires of the entire palette. Jewelry came alive in a rainbow of color combinations. The fine Italian jeweler has established itself as the master of colored gemstones in its High Jewelry pieces. An established expert in diamond design, Bulgari creations have always featured the finest diamonds since the 1920s. In the following decades, Bulgari gradually began adding precious, rare colored gems to complement its pieces. In the 1950s, Italy became the design center of Europe and Bulgari took the color revolution to the next level.
Deviating from the traditional, diamond-based Parisian school of jewelry, Bulgari developed a bold and unprecedented style, exploring unusual color combinations such as rubies and emeralds, and sapphires of the entire palette. Jewelry came alive in a rainbow of color combinations. Further invention built upon the classic asymmetrical motif and traditional cut — Bulgari designed with symmetrical, compact shapes and reintroduced the use of the cabochon cut for prominent, high-quality gemstones.
This shape for large gemstones dates back to antiquity but had since fallen out of custom; today it has become a Bulgari trademark. A cabochon-cut gem is ideal to convey a sense of volume, luminosity and contrast with the surrounding faceted diamonds, and serves to highlight a stone’s aesthetic potential. With similar foresight, contemporary Bulgari designs have also featured the ancient mogul or takhti cut, allowing an egg-shaped luminescence that can be difficult to achieve, but has a dramatically smooth result. The beauty within the stone — what truly makes them one-of-a-kind — is at the heart of every Bulgari design.
Modernity and seduction: creative watchmaking the BULGARI way
Bulgari presents a 2016 preview of new watch models entirely in tune with its creative universe. The Rome-based jeweller innovates constantly by associating its mastery of precious materials with Swiss watchmaking precision. The new spectacularly flamboyant Serpenti Incantati watch once again highlights the iconic serpent theme in an astonishing way. Bulgari has long since tamed this symbolic and fascinating creature. Incantati means “enchanting” in Italian and Bulgari charms the snake in a whole new way through this spellbinding horological interpretation of Haute Joaillerie. It is also accompanied by an all-new precious dial for the Serpenti line, along with new versions on the Tubogas bracelet.
These new models naturally chime with the Italian culture pervading the brand, an identity continually reinforced by the array of exceptional Haute Horlogerie and Haute Joaillerie skills perfectly mastered by Bulgari for more than 130 years. Inventiveness and boldness thus join forces in shaping a refined vision of watchmaking.
Serpenti Incantati. The entrancing charm of Haute Joaillerie
The Bulgari jeweller is a snake charmer. The precious new Serpenti Incantati watch entirely renews this theme through a modern design and a radiant Haute Joaillerie interpretation.
Serpenti Incantati is an enchanting reptile, a snake so beautiful that it is never fearsome. It traditionally belongs to the bestiary of Ancient Rome and has long since been successfully tamed by the Roman jeweller Bulgari. In finding its way into the watch collections of the Italian Maison, it has become a watch by concealing a secret dial and a high-precision Swiss movement inside the serpent’s head.
The snake now appears a new guise by taking on the shape of a round watch case.
This new horological creation is extremely original. For the very first time, the reptile coils around the watch dial. Each part of the head and body of the snake has been entirely rethought and redesigned with extremely contemporary lines. “They are very soft and stylised. While Bulgari domesticates the snake, the latter nonetheless appears to be in perpetual motion. Therein lies the secret of this watch,” notes designer Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani. Four choices are possible, since the Serpenti Incantati watch comes in a rubellite or diamond version, each expressed through two different interpretations.
The primary source of inspiration for this jewellery watch was a vintage brooch crafted in the 1930s Bulgari Haute Joaillerie ateliers.
In revisiting this jewellery creation, the Roman Maison testifies to the strength for the future represented by its incredibly rich heritage.
Limited Editions: a contemporary homage to historical models
Bulgari is also presenting two other jewellery watches on the Serpenti theme this year, both in limited editions. The double wrap-around bracelet and the head are set with diamonds, while emerald or ruby eyes give the entrancing serpent a deeply disturbing gaze. The colours of these models are created by intense lacquers: one of the versions plays with the sombre magic of black, while the other one coils a deep emerald green around the entire bracelet, in contrast with the glittering ruby red eyes.
These two beautiful contemporary tributes to historical models also testify to this motif’s enduring ability for self-renewal, thanks to the permanent and inspired creativity nurtured by Bulgari. At over 60 years’ old, this snake is more modern than ever.
How to donate air miles
S7 Airlines launches charity project in support of the Naked Heart Foundation
The Naked Heart Foundation and S7 Airlines, a member of the oneworld® global airline alliance, have announced that they will be working together on a new charity project. Members of the S7 Priority frequent flyer programme will now be able to use their air miles to support the work of the Foundation. Those air miles will be used to fund the construction of a children’s sports playground in Perm, Russia, under the Foundation’s Play with Purpose programme. The playground will be located on the grounds of a centre for psychological, educational, medical and social support and is designed for children aged 7 to 12 years.
Natalia Vodianova, founder of the Naked Heart Foundation: “I am really pleased that more and more companies want to support the Foundation, not just through donations, but also by encouraging their staff and clients to get involved in charity work. We need financial support, of course, but it is equally important to disseminate information about our work. Thanks to the charity project with S7 Airlines, many more people will be able to find out about our Play with Purpose programme and think about how all children should have access to a safe play environment.”
Natalia Nikolaeva, development director for the S7 Priority loyalty programme: “S7 Airlines has always taken an interest in charity and social projects. Last year, we gave S7 Priority members the chance to support various foundations by donating their air miles, which would be used to transport children for treatment. That initiative was very popular among our frequent flyers. This time we are giving them to chance to support the construction of a sports playground that can be enjoyed by all children, including kids with disabilities. By joining forces, should see results by September this year.”
The NAKED HEART FOUNDATION is a non-profit organisation founded in 2004
by Natalia Vodianova. The Foundation’s primary areas of work are creating
a system of free services for vulnerable families raising children with special needs
and building inclusive playgrounds. Currently, the Foundation has been involved in more than 150 play sites throughout Russia, dozens of Russian NPOs projects working with children
with special needs, leading the Family Support Centre
in Nizhny Novgorod, the training program for school teachers working with
children with autism, and the annual International Forum —
"Every Child Deserves a Family".

BENETTI LADY CANDY: 56 METRES OF STYLE, CLASS, AND SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE
In a perfect marriage between East and West, LADY CANDY offers the ultimate in comfort, beauty, and technology, for a totally relaxing cruising experience.
The style of Italian yacht design masters, the Benetti boatyard's technological prowess, and the Owner's magic touch of the East combine to create a 56-metre yacht whose class is matched only by its outstanding performance: LADY CANDY, the latest jewel of the Benetti family.
The Benetti boatyard in Livorno launched the M/Y LADY CANDY (Unit No. FB260) late last May 2013. 100% steel and aluminium, the 56-metre vessel is built on a time-tested naval architecture platform with proven dependability in previous yachts. For LADY CANDY, this platform was partially modified with the repositioning of the wheelhouse on the sun deck and the associated widening of the beam. LADY CANDY combines interior spaces worthy of a 56-metre vessel with outstanding performance, including a maximum speed of nearly 17 knots, comfort which translates into stability, and almost zero associated vibrations and noise.
The interiors are simple and welcoming. Briar root wood predominates and is combined with soft colours like lilac and jade, reflecting an "international" aesthetic that unites the East and West.
The architects and designers worked with the Owner to develop a design object which is beyond the merely "fashionable", paying close attention to every detail. This quality is also found in the creation of "custom" spaces to meet the Owner's special specifications.
The main deck welcomes guests with an enormous saloon, bar, and lobby area with ample sofas for relaxing and a large dining room with circular table that seats 14, as well as a powder room. Further to the bow, on the port side, there is a professional kitchen and to starboard, a media room with a 70" screen and Dolby surround sound speakers. Even further to the bow is the garage for the 7.3 metre Tendershipyard TS 73 tender. Regardless of the weather conditions, the launch can be easily manoeuvred from above by opening the side door and operating a simple launching-hauling system. The garage also accommodates two jet skis, assorted water toys and a cavernous chilled garbage locker for extended cruising. Astern of the saloon, there is the large cockpit with an enormous sofa and armchairs.
The upper deck of LADY CANDY is devoted to the Owner and his daughter (who the boat is named after) as well as other prestigious guests. This is where the boat Owner and VIP suites are located. The VIP suite is to the bow and enjoys a marvellous water view thanks to the 180° circular window; the suite includes a dressing room, vanity, sofa, bathroom with double sinks, shower, and a bathtub. The Owner's apartment is astern and includes a panoramic saloon, private office, lounge area, and large bathroom with two toilets separated by a shower. Forward of the cabin is the private VIP terrace. VIP guests need not to be disturbed by crew at any time as they have a secret access to the foredeck through the tender garage below.
The Owner also enjoys a private terrace with direct access via panoramic glazing from the actual bedroom area. This deck also includes a massage room, a typical feature found in the Asian culture. In addition to hosting the wheelhouse, the sun deck also functions as a large open air terrace with sofas, a Jacuzzi, covered cooking area with extractor and a large dining table. There is ahideaway minibar complete with stools custom-designed by the boatyard per the Owner's specific request.
In terms of performance, LADY CANDY enables sustained speeds and optimal cruising comfort. Maximum speed is approximately 17 knots, while cruising speed is 16 knots. Fuel-economy speed is 12 knots, with a range of 5,000 nautical miles. The engine room has two 1.320 kW MTU 12V 4000 engines and two 175 kW Cat C9 Genset generators.
It is an extremely refined vessel, the perfect on-the-water home, one which is proportionally sized and where spaces are used to their fullest, making it possible to navigate in small bays and overnight in ports free of crowds. LADY CANDY embodies the world class quality that the Benetti boatyard is known for around the world.

PORSCHE GOLF CUP:
The World Final in Majorca
The Porsche Golf Cup was first held in 1988, since when it has become one of the company’s most successful international customer events. It is organised by Porsche centres and Porsche sales companies. The Porsche Golf Cup World Final will be played for the third time in 2016, with Majorca providing the venue for the third time. Defending champion in the Nations Cup is the team from South Korea.
Title goes to Taiwan
Stuttgart/Palma de Mallorca. The third Porsche Golf Cup World Final featured fantastic sport in ideal conditions on the Spanish Mediterranean island of Majorca. 77 amateur golfers from 16 countries teed off at the two-day tournament, which took place at Arabella Golf Son Vida and Club de Golf Alcanada. The team from Taiwan won the Nations Cup, ahead of defending champions South Korea and Japan. In the singles competitions (gross), the ladies title went to Germany’s Laura Oker, while her compatriot Gunar Petersen emerged triumphant in the men’s class. Despite their best efforts, none of the players managed to drive away in the Porsche 718 Boxster S, which was this year’s hole-in-one prize.
In total, more than 8,300 Porsche customers around the world took part in 152 qualifying tournaments ahead of this year’s World Final — a new record. The standard of play at the Porsche Golf Cup was underlined by the fact that 40 percent of the field in Majorca had single-figure handicaps, including no fewer than four players with a plus handicap.
However, before the sporting action got underway, the participants and their guests had chance to sample the Majorcan hospitality. All the teams were presented in a ceremony at the welcome evening, which took place in a former sandstone quarry. The team from South Korea returned the trophy it won last year. The evening formed an extremely atmospheric start to the tournament, and was followed the next day by an exclusive dinner at the “Coast” restaurant, which was designed by star designer Phillipe Starck and is located in the chic marina of Port Adriano. The participants also had the opportunity to take part in the Porsche Driving Experience, where they were able to test drive all the latest Porsche models, including the new 718 Boxster.
A traditional finca provided a dream setting for the presentation ceremony and party on Wednesday evening. Oliver Hoffmann, Director Experiential Marketing at Porsche AG, presented the trophies to the winners. “The enthusiasm of our customers who qualified for the World Final is contagious. We were once again treated to top-class sport, and it is always nice to see how the participants from different nations all mingle and share their fascination for golf at this event.”
