What first comes to your mind nowadays when you hear the word "yacht"? Heavenly days under blue skies at the serene waters of the sea, magnificent vacation aboard the fast and spacious vessel, detachment from everyday obligations and concerns, and of course Burgess — brand that successfully combined all of this. But forty years ago the name Burgess still wasn't associated with the global yachting business — it was just the surname of the hardcore yachtsman Nigel Burgess, known for some as a man of courage that loved the sea and sailed single-handed. But coupled with bravery, entrepreneurial attitude of this man allowed him to open a small office in London — Nigel Burgess LTD — for the provision of services related to yachts in the mid 70's of the last century. By giving extraordinary attention to every client and respecting details, Nigel Burgess LTD over the years has evolved to just Burgess — a recognised mega yachts industry leader with a wide network of offices operating almost in all regions of the world.
But the path to success, as is usually the case, was not easy and never allowed Mr. Burgess to relax. The first step to expanding Nigel Burgess LTD was the opening of an office in Monaco in 1979, the place that hosted the world yacht show, and sale of the Majestic M (later renamed to Midnight Saga) yacht there with a length of 75 m. In the late seventies, this yacht was unmatched in size. And in 1981, Jonathan Beckett joined the team of Nigel Burgess LTD — a current President and owner of the company, who managed to sustain growth rates and make it one of the industry leaders. In 1984, the company began a charter activity by creating a department for yacht charter, and after successful selling of 86-metre yacht later named Kingdom 5-KR in 1987, the company created the department of yacht management.
1992 was a tragic year in history of Nigel Burgess LTD: its founder, Nigel Burgess, died during circumnavigation.
But the mechanism of success started by him continued to work: in 1998, the first office of the company was opened in the United States, and in 2001 it became the world's first yacht broker awarded by the Royal awards for entrepreneurial activity — the Queen's Award, which was presented at the official ceremony held on the Tower Bridge in London. In the meantime, the company opened the department of the new construction projects and closed a deal on selling PLATINUM (160 m) — world's biggest yacht of that time.
From 2002 to 2004, the company opened new offices on different continents: Athens, Palma de Mallorca and New York. It also began its operations in Moscow. In the year 2005, the department of new construction projects has designed 18 projects of yachts about 80 metres and started designing sport cruisers, opening offices in London, Monaco and Miami.
The year 2007 was a year of rebranding: the company participated in the Monaco Yacht Show under the name Burgess. Since then, this name glorified the company as a member of the world's top leaders of the yachting industry.
And in 2012 in Holland, Burgess signed a contract for the construction of the largest yacht. And after that, a landmark event in all the super yacht industry happened: in 2013, 180-metre motor yacht AZZAM was set afloat, which became the true materialised dream. And if yachts used to be a prestigious kind of camping earlier, now they literally became a house — owners may spend several months on board.
Working with customers, the company sees its duty in protection of their interests, while ensuring safety. Therefore, Burgess created the department that offers a complete package of insurance solutions for any yacht.
The phenomenal growth of this company that provided services related to the rental, sale, construction and professional servicing of the world's best yachts turned it into a leading broker in the world, which specialises exclusively in large luxury yachts. And it allows Burgess to represent themselves with honour and display their yachts at the Europe's most prestigious yacht show in Monaco. It is a popular meeting place for sellers and buyers, designers and brokers.
You can see the largest yachts in the world with your own eyes at the port Hercule in Monaco. This year, the prestigious event that attracts yachting business leaders from around the world will be attended by 118 super yachts up to 120 metres long. In addition to maritime space, 400 square metres of coastal lands along the port were reserved for a demonstration of such giants. Fateful encounters, successful negotiations, spectacular parties — all this, undoubtedly, awaits the visitors at the show.
So, what awaits yacht fans in the future season — what are the predictions and fashion trends? Burgess knows the answer to this question. They create something unusual and thus reasonably believe that they will successfully close many large deals in all world markets.

"Running Hearts" in Moscow
First “Running Hearts” charity run took place in Moscow in aid of the “Naked Heart” Foundation
On 16th May the first Running Hearts race took place in Moscow’s Gorky Park. The runners had signed up for the race not only to get personal bests but also to achieve a more important goal — to raise money for integrative summer camps for children and young people with disabilities. Together, they managed to raise more than 10 million roubles for the Naked Heart project.
The race was organised by Natalia Vodianova and Polina Kitsenko, the Naked Heart Foundation and Podium Market. The general sponsors and partners were Adidas and Coca-Cola and the event was supported by Guerlain and Absolut Bank.
Natalia Vodianova: “Why a run in particular? Because running is simple. Anyone can run. There is probably nothing else that any able-bodied person can do without being taught how. Your ability to run does not depend on your age, your financial situation or your skin colour. Running is the most democratic of sports. Also, running is fun, especially if you are part of a team of like-minded people and are running not just for the sake of it, but for a purpose.”
Polina Kitsenko: “Running is becoming wildly popular all around the world and all major running events raise money for charity. Fundraising has become such common practice that it is no longer an option to run without raising money! And now Natalia and I have decided to organise our own run, this time in Moscow — the “Running Hearts” race. All the funds raised will go to the Naked Heart Foundation.”
Olympic champions, experienced professional athletes, members of athletics teams and advanced and beginner amateur runners gathered in Gorky Park first thing in the morning and waited for the starting pistol. Miserable weather, heavy rain and a sudden cold snap did not break the runners’ spirit and 1,500 people gathered the start line. Competition was in the air as they ran from Krymsky Bridge, up the picturesque Pushkinskaya Embankment, then to Sparrow Hills (Vorobyevy Gory) and back. It was the perfect activity for a Saturday morning in Moscow, and was also a municipal holiday — Moscow Parks day, which has been now been designated by the Department of Culture, as the official date for the Running Hearts event.
The first runners to set off were legendary Olympic and Paralympic athletes, who finally had a chance to realise their common dream and complete the distance together. They included Olympic athletes Aleksandr Legkov and Evgeni Plushenko and six-time Paralympic champion Roman Petushkov; between them they hold 14 Olympic medals. A minute later, the rest of the participants set off, including famous faces from the worlds of cinema, theatre and business, the best Russian amateur athletes, press and television teams and corporate running teams, who ran in large groups.
A record number of Olympic champions, who between them hold 28 Olympic medals, took part in the amateur race — Roman Petushkov, Evgeni Plushenko, Alexander Legkov, Ivan Alypov, Angelica Timanina Alexandra Patskevich, Sergey Shilov and Ekaterina Bobrova.
Stage and screen stars were also spotted among the runners: Renata Litvinova, Svetlana Ustinova, Victoria Isakova, Anastasia Zadorozhnaya, Yegor Koreshkov. Lyubov Tolkalina and Natalya Shvets, as well as Zemfira, Yana Rudkovskaya, Mourad Osman, Timofei Kolesnikov, Elena Spirina, Daria Lisichenko, Inna Malikova, Natalia Dubovitskaya, Polina Deripaska, Olga Novozhilov, Maria Kravtsova, Vlad Topalov, Olga Michi, Alex Kiselev, Natalia Vodianova’s son Lucas, Pauline Kitsenko’s son Egor, Yana Rudkovskaya’s son Nikolai Baturin and Alesia Kafelnikova.
For several hours, the event hosts — Ilya Trifanov (presenter of a popular Russian sports TV show) and Anton Komolov — entertained the runners and spectators and kept their spirits up. The event ended with a concert by Russian indie band Therr Maitz.
Despite the rain and cold, the overall atmosphere was incredibly warm — no one wanted to leave at the end of the race. A combination of personal achievement, the challenging weather and close contact with professional athletes and celebrities, many of whom were running for the first time, created a unique family atmosphere. All the participants were united by a single goal — to run with purpose and help children and young people with special needs.
All the winners received special prizes from the event sponsors and partners — Adidas, Coca-Cola, Guerlain and Absolut Bank. A special prize was awarded to participants who had conducted extra fundraising among their friends and acquaintances and raised the largest amount of donations on their dedicated JustGiving pages.
In total, the event raised a record amount of money — more than 10 million roubles. Running Hearts is the only race that is 100% in aid of charity. Absolutely all the donations and fees went towards the organisation of integrative summer camps for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders.
The NAKED HEART FOUNDATION is a non-profit organisation founded in 2004 by Natalia Vodianova. The Foundation’s primary areas of work are creating a system of free services for vulnerable families raising children with special needs and building inclusive playgrounds. Currently, the Foundation has been involved in more than 140 play sites throughout Russia, dozens of Russian NPOs projects working with children with special needs, leading the Family Support Centre in Nizhny Novgorod, the training program for school teachers working with autistic children, and the annual International Forum —
"Every Child Deserves a Family".

Among the famous hotels of Monaco, the Hotel Hermitage holds a special place, because its history is the history of the Principality of Monaco itself.
Immaculate serenity of the Belle Epoque style
Among the famous hotels of Monaco, the Hotel Hermitage holds a special place, because its history is the history of the Principality of Monaco itself. In 1860, by order of his Highness Prince Charles III of the Principality of Monaco, a famous casino was built on the Monte Carlo plateau, which very soon became a very popular place among wealthy people.
A small hotel stood in an orange grove near the casino. Its owner, Vincent Benoit, decided to build a luxury hotel in a neoclassical style in its place. Nicolas Market, the best architect of Monaco of that time, built a real palace with the magnificent façade decorated with murals, elegant balconies and columns.
In 2003, the hotel has been completely renovated. Today, the Hotel Hermitage located within 25 km from the Nice Airport (6 minutes by helicopter, 35 minutes by car) harmoniously combines the nostalgic charm of graceful belle époque architecture, elegant interiors and antique furniture with modern comfort of the highest level.
Enchanting gardens, elegant promenades, luxury shops, delightful views of the sea, snow-white yachts swaying on sea waves — discreet luxury and refined elegance of the Hotel Hermitage and its surroundings still attracts people who want to experience the beauty and serenity of life. Upon arrival, each guest receives individual "Gold Card" for the free entrance to the Casino of Monte Carlo.
The main artistic value of the hotel is its winter garden. Tropical plants flourishing in the luxurious white golden hall are bathed by the sunlight through a huge glass dome with stained-glass artworks created by Gustave Eiffel — author of the most famous Paris Tower named in his honour.
A standard of design art — Salle Belle Epoque — with its majestic columns of pink marble, crystal chandeliers, luxurious stucco and exclusive tableware will immerse in the true atmosphere of the Beautiful Era. Hermitage is filled with wonderfully preserved masterpieces of neoclassical style. Gabriel Ferrier, winner of the Rome Architecture Award 1889, created wonderful frescoes inspired by paintings of Fragonard and Boucher that decorate guest rooms.
Hotel Hermitage has 4 restaurants serving French cuisine. The menu of the "Vistamar" restaurant (one Michelin star) depends entirely on the freshest of fish caught the same day.
In "Crystalbar" each dish from gourmet menus can be accompanied with a matching glass of wine made from the grapes of the best varieties. And the "Belle Epoque" restaurant — is an excellent choice for people who enjoy life.
The following apartments are located above the main façade: In the first part — 8 rooms, one junior suite and two "VIP" rooms on two floors of the "Princes" wing. In the second part — 46 rooms and a two-storey suite in the "Bomarchais" wing. Floors-apartments have a separate elevator. Staircases and passageways are under 24-hour video surveillance and made in bright colours. Each room has a living room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms with walk-in wardrobe and boudoir. Their colour design in unique: the walls are decorated in brown and beige tones and accents are expressed in the upholstery of chairs and the curtains made of cotton, silk, printed cloth and chatoyant velvet. Pillows, interior curtains and frills are made of handmade fabric.
There are many antiques in the bedrooms and living rooms. Oak parquet floors, mouldings and high ceilings enhance a feeling of large space. The bathrooms are tiled with White Carrara Marble, their floor is decorated with mosaics and walls of frosted glass create the illusion of daylight.
Furniture is fully matches the decoration of the rooms, successfully combining classical and modern styles. Deep Louis XVI armchairs with cosy backs are located next to the polished chests of drawers made of rosewood and dark sofas with leather or velvet upholstery.
And of course, the pride of the hotel — a two-storey suite. Bright pink-yellow and pastel-green colours and modern furniture contrast with classic style. A large window over the spiral staircase in the living room leading onto a terrace fills the room with light. Terrace is located at different levels of the roof and occupies an area of about 100 sq. m. The front part of the terrace is located in the shade of the pergola, where you can enjoy breakfast or lunch. A Jacuzzi and a solarium are located at the rear part of the terrace in the shade of the second pergola behind the hedgerow. All the furniture here is made of woven cane.
Rest and relaxation
The beauty and relaxation centre Les Thermes Marins de Monte-Carlo can be reached from the hotel via the underground corridor. Here you may find a cardio training centre widely known in Europe. It provides customers with a variety of rejuvenating and relaxing treatments suited to every fancy: hydro massage, manual massage, electro massage, pressure therapy, underwater shower, treatment with Dead Sea products, oil baths and seawater swimming pool, fitness centre and dietetic restaurant "L'Hirondel".
