The mysterious birth
of the chosen ones
Text: Natalie Ott, Elena Boguslavskaja
To see a miracle, you need to go underground. Champagne is quietly maturing here, in the silence of 30-meter deep cellars. Only a few people by the name of Cattier are part of the mysterious birth of this elegant and sophisticated sparkling wine. The life of ten generations of this family can be described in two words- Champagne and grapes. Their success is based on three dates: in 1763, Cattier became owners of vineyards; in 1918, they began to create sparkling wines of a very high quality; in 2006, connoisseurs of the exclusive product received a wonderful gift from the house Cattier: the premium champagne Armand de Brignac.
This is the most famous, exclusive and unique champagne of the Cattier house. The world's only handmade cuvée prestige based on old techniques from processing vines in the vineyards of Grand Cru and Premier Cru, one of the rarest and most prestigious locations in Champagne le Cos du Moulin. Wine matures for 4-5 years, remuage lasts for 30 days, and then the fur is removed and combined with dose liquor that has been stored in oak barrels. After corking and adding a wire, a black capsule with the coat of arms of Armand de Brignac is fastened on to the bottle. The birth of champagne is completed by applying handmade tin labels.
In 2009, the leading wine experts of Fine Champagne Magazine conducted a "blind" tasting of 1000 different samples of champagne. Armand de Brignac Brut Gold was acknowledged the best. Jancis Robinson, one of the most respected and strictest wine critics, as well as editor of The Oxford Companion to Wine and personal wine consultant to the Queen of Britain, having tasted the wine from the "golden bottle from a very luxurious lacquered black box", wrote that she was "really impressed".
It has an elegant and absolutely unique packaging: a shiny bottle with gold, platinum or pink glitter, depending on the kind of Armand de Brignac, decorated with a pewter coat of arms in the shape of an ace of spades, laid in a luxurious, velvet-lined black box. The design for the Armand de Brignac bottle was developed by the famous French designer André Courrèges. Four tin labels are manually applied on to the surface of bottles. Each label is glued and polished by hand, and some subtle differences in the metal tones, shades and structure can be found in each coat of arms, demonstrating the unique work of a craftsman.
Every year the Cattier house produces a limited edition of Armand de Brignac in large handmade bottles: Magnum (1.5 l), Jeroboam (3 l), Methuselah (6 l), Nebuchadnezzar (15 l). The largest diamond in this crown is Midas (30 l). The bottle weighs more than 45 kg, it is about 1.5 m tall.
The noble taste of Armand de Brignac gives a sense of celebration. It is an exquisite and elegant premium champagne, which occupies a rightful place among exclusive wines, and is becoming a natural choice for connoisseurs of beauty.
There are three kinds of champagne with different tastes in the collection of Armand de Brignac.
Armand de Brignaс Brut Rose
The gorgeous salmon colour is the result of subtle assemblage, adding subtle Pinot Noir in to the cuvée of white sparkling wine. A wine with the flavour of fresh strawberries and blackcurrants is imprinted in the memory due to its long and rich aftertaste. Armand de Brignac Brut Rose is made in very limited quantities, even in comparison to the exclusive Brut Gold.
Armand de Brignac Brut Gold
The flagship cuvée, surprisingly complex and full-bodied, with light floral notes, is a result of the perfectly balanced mixture of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Its taste has bright fruity properties, in which you can find exquisite shades of brioches. Delightfully compact, with a stable foam, the Brut has a silky, creamy texture and a long, pleasant plum-like aftertaste.
Armand de Brignac Blanc de Blancs
A wonderful pale gold-coloured champagne with a clean and simple bouquet full of fresh fruit and floral notes. The structure of the wine is delicate and light; the taste is dry, ethereal and complex. Blanc de Blancs comprises only 5% of the already small amount of Armand de Brignac in production.

SUCCESS & CHARITY:
Text: Elena Boguslavskaja
Children's Aid Fund "Naked Hearts" started its work in 2004. It was established by world-famous model and mother of three, Natalia Vodianova: "Our mission is to make sure that every child has everything that is absolutely necessary for a full, happy childhood: a loving family and a safe play space for development".
Asya Zalogina, president of the "Naked Hearts", answered some of VictoryON's questions.
— Ms Zalogina, the scope of activities of the "Naked Hearts" Fund is truly impressive. But any important movement for the benefit of the society begins with one person, one event and one experience. Could you tell us what prompted the global top model Natalia Vodianova to create such a fund?
— For Natalia, the starting point was the tragedy in Beslan. That was the point at which Natalia realized she could not simply do nothing or not respond. However, it was hard to do something in Beslan immediately after the tragedy without any organisation. The Fund built a playground in Beslan five years after the tragedy, which was pretty good, because, of course, Beslan eventually stopped being the focus of attention, and the flow of aid was reduced.
— How did the fund get such a wonderful name? Who invented it?
— The name was invented by Natalia. If I remember correctly, she came up with it at night. We often draw parallels with the burning heart of Danko, the hero of one of the stories by Russian writer Maxim Gorky. It's very symbolic, given that Gorky's city, which now has its historical name Nizhny Novgorod, is Natalia's birthplace.
— Why was a focus on children with special needs chosen?
— It was not decided right away, only after Natalya saw the alternative that awaited these children who had been abandoned by their parents with her own eyes. That was something Natalia's mother did not do when her middle daughter, Oksana, was born. Oksana was first diagnosed with infantile cerebral palsy. The correct diagnosis, severe autism, was made much later.
Natalia remembers the difficulties her family had to face and struggle with very well. She remembers how dramatically her life changed. That is why we focus on supporting families with children and young people with such disabilities.
— Some time passed after a decision was made to establish the fund "Naked Hearts" and before the opening of the first playground. What happened during that time? What was the fund doing?
— As is often the case, we had to adhere to a lot of bureaucratic formalities, make a lot of effort to understand how to organize work in a more efficient way and how to achieve our goals. It is no secret that the original idea of the fund was changed: parks and playgrounds were born from the dream of a closed recreational centre. Eventually, it turned out that construction of one such centre would take a lot of time, and during that time we wanted to do something different, just as useful, and accessible for more people.
— Natalia Vodianova, the founder of the fund, and its trustees are world-famous people, and every minute of their days is scheduled. Nevertheless, they find the time to participate in the activities held by the fund. Why is it so important for them to be personally involved?
— I can only assume that they share the ideas of Natalia and the fund, trust the team and see that their personal involvement influences our work. They see the results, and that is always motivating. We never talked to them about it. Some trustees have been with us since the very beginning, while the others decided to share their time, knowledge, and reputation with us after having seen our work.
— The fund "Naked Hearts" demonstrates the famous biblical expression "He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack". Which outstanding people provide financial support for your activities and what makes them take this decision?
— This question is very hard to answer. It should be posed to each of the people who have helped us. I can only say that, in my opinion, supporting any activities is not based on pathos, it is mostly based on traditions, personal motivation and confidence. I think it is simple. I might be wrong though.
— The traditional charity Love Ball, which has become one of the most notable society events in the world over the last four years, was held this summer in Monaco. Along with Prince Albert of Monaco, his wife Princess Charlene and Princess Caroline, the ball was attended by Karl Lagerfeld, Bono, Mario Testino, Novak Djokovic, Antoine Arnault, Ulyana Sergeenko, Derek Blasberg, Harvey Weinstein, Margarita Missoni, Polly Morgan and many others. The most prominent and world-renowned Russian artists, such as Diana Vishneva, prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre, world ballet star and Grammy Award-winning Ildar Abdrazakov, illustrious violinist Maxim Vengerov and maestro Valery Gergiev performed for the guests. How much money was collected for the "Naked Hearts" fund, and how are you planning to spend it?
— We collected 3.2 million euros and we have already started spending it in an active way. The fund never stops working; we are continuing the construction of parks and playgrounds, the Family Support Centre in Nizhny Novgorod is open every day and we fund the projects of our partner NGOs in Tula, Tver, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. It is not only our work, but also the activities of other Russian organisations that depend on charity fundraising.
— Please tell us how the"Naked Hearts" fund has developed. Has this been difficult, or has everything gone smoothly? Have always felt understanding and support?
— It has developed from the huge efforts of a very small team, which consists of people dedicated to Natalia and her ideas. By the way, our team has increased, but not significantly. We still prefer to do as much as possible using a very strong, but not necessarily very large, resource. We always remember that the important things are still to come. If we look back, we realise that there have been more situations where we received support and understanding, than where we faced difficulties.
— What are the main activities of the fund? To which activities do you give the most attention?
— The Fund works in two directions: construction of children's parks and playgrounds, and development and support of family support services. We pay an equally large amount of attention to all our events. Successful fundraising initiatives are certainly very important to us, as they allow us to continue our work.
— What are the principles you apply when choosing a city to build a new playground?
— First of all, the city should submit an application. We do not work with cities that do not address us at their own initiative, as we believe it is very important for the city administration that will be in charge of the further site maintenance to understand the entire scope of work. They will have to maintain what the fund did: clean the playground area, install lighting, and make running repairs.
Of course, we are happy to respond to the applications from remote corners of the country. I'm sure that if you look at the map of our sites on the fund's website, you will discover a lot of places you hadn't heard of before.
— How do you feel just before opening a new children's playground? How do you find the right words to support parents who have an unusual child?
— Of course, I always feel a lot of positive energy at the opening of a park. I even don't need to hear words of gratitude from parents. It is enough to see the smiles on the faces of all the visitors.
I really admire the parents who decide to keep a special child in the family, and I want them to get highly-qualified support from the state as well as from non-profit organisations. I really hope that that will happen soon. There are a lot of discussions about the importance of the family, however, professional support is very limited, and I don't necessarily mean in terms of finances.
— The Foundation began its activities in 2004. Now, thanks to your noble and selfless work, the hundredth playground for children with special needs has been opened in Russia. It is impossible to count how many kids have visited all of the parks over the years. Tell us about the fund's plans for the near future.
— I would like to say that our facilities are not created especially for a particular group of children. They are fundamentally inclusive and designed for everyone. This year we opened our hundredth playground, and, by the end of autumn, some more playgrounds were opened, making it a total of 108. This year we have also been implementing the projects that are inclusive, but slightly more focused on the needs of children with restricted mobility, as well as behavioural problems. We have been developing some of the elements for two years, and we hope to be able to use them to diversify the equipment of our future play facilities.
— People working for the benefit of others do not wait for rewards, the rewards find them. Was is the most valuable reward received by the Fund?
— The Fund has earned trust and support. I think that's the most important thing.
— Is it true that warmth, compassion and selflessness change the world for the better, and those who share sincere love with the others get much more in return?
— I think that the world is changed for the better by thorough actions. Compassion can also be quiet, without any actions. This is also a choice.
The "Naked Hearts" fund has set an ambitious goal to build 500 parks and playgrounds across Russia, including in the areas of children's hospitals, orphanages and rehabilitation centers. Every year, this goal is getting closer - now there are already 108 facilities in Russia. There are no doubts that the fund, run by Natalia Vodianova, a woman with an open and loving heart, not only achieves her goals, but will also exceed the wildest expectations.
For five decades Porsche 911 has been the "heart and soul" of the Porsche brand. There is hardly any other car which could combine tradition and continuity so harmoniously.
Porsche presented its special model at the Frankfurt Motor Show on the day of the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911. In 1963, the Porsche Company showed its first 911 to the audience at this leading international car exhibition. Since then, the legendary sports car has fascinated car enthusiasts and professionals around the world and it is still a model for other sports models. Since their début in 1963, the range of sports cars has constantly improved. The only thing that was not subject to change was the original character of Porsche 911. 50 years of evolution accompanied by numerous victories in races resulted in a sports car that fully embodies the unique character of the Porsche brand. His genes can be found in all other Porsche models. After all, every Porsche claims to be the sports car in its segment.
More than 820,000 Porsche 911s have been produced in total. In terms of sales, it has become one of the most successful cars in the world. While working on each new generation of Porsche 911 - and there are already 7 of them - Porsche engineers from Zuffenhausen and Weissach have created innovations that continue to confirm the innovative power of the brand. Porsche 911 combines such seemingly contradictory notions as suitability for both sports and everyday use, exclusivity and social acceptance, design and functionality like no other car. It is no surprise that each new generation has its own unique success story. Ferry Porsche gave a clear definition of Porsche 911: "911 is the only car in which you can participate in an African safari or race at Le Mans, and then go to the theatre or just drive in the streets of New York".
911 Carrera S
Along with its classic and unique design, the Porsche 911 has always excelled due to its advanced technology at the time of production. Many of the ideas that first took shape in the Porsche 911 originate from the racetrack. After all, Porsche 911 has always remained true to the principle of high sports achievements and was tested in the principal test laboratory - in motor sports. Right after the launch, the car participated in all prestigious global motor races and earned victories, proving its versatility and reliability. Nearly two-thirds of 30,000 victories earned using Porsche cars were with the Porsche 911.
As the very first Porsche 911, a commemorative model 911 Carrera S is a coupe with rear-mounted six-cylinder boxer engine and rear-wheel drive. This model has ultramodern technical characteristics, an active sports suspension system and an exclusive body. The Anniversary Porsche 911 has a broad back, which is usually typical for all-wheel drive models. The production of the exclusive model is limited to 1963 cars. This number marks the première year of the first Porsche 911.
911 Turbo S
Porsche Company represents a new generation of Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S, top technology and dynamics of the model range Porsche 911, and a standard of a serial sports car for everyday use. 40 years after the world première of the first prototype model Porsche 911, Turbo pushes the boundaries of dynamics, efficiency and suitability for everyday use for cars in this segment again.
New active car systems played a decisive role. Active rear wheel control increases manoeuvrability both on normal roads and on circular tracks; the system of active aerodynamic elements Porsche (PAA) increases the dynamic performance and efficiency.
At the IAA Showroom 2013, Porsche presented a successful Panamera Diesel with a completely new engine with a capacity of 300 HP, and an impressive package of optimization of dynamic properties, which increased the attractiveness of the model.
More powerful features of the new turbo engine support customized settings of the gearbox. In order to reduce fuel consumption and improve the level of comfort at high speed, for instance, the rear axle has a long transmission ratio. The Panamera Diesel reaches its cruising speed at a reduced engine rpm. It consumes 6.4 l/100 km on average in the NEFZ Gran Turismo cycle with the new engine, and CO2 emissions stand at 169 g/km. Moreover, time for transfer from the first to the fourth in the Tiptronic S eight-transmission gearbox have short gear ratio, so the Gran Turismo has an exceptionally vigorous acceleration and intermediate accelerations.
Furthermore, the setting of the suspension system influences manoeuvrability: due to slightly elevated rigidity of the front and rear stabilizers, the Panamera Diesel can move in a sportier way than before.
The world première of the Porsche 918 Spyder was held at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in 2013. The super sports car with plug-in hybrid drive opens a new era. Outstanding dynamic performance has never been combined with the typical fuel consumption of a compact car to create a super sports car suitable for everyday use.
Porsche genes for the future:
918 Spyder hybrid with high hybrid drive
The 918 Spyder is a continuation of the integration of traditional Porsche genes in the advanced concept of a sports car. This model is designed "from scratch" as a highly efficient hybrid and it has a high dynamic of a super car with an 887 hp, unlike any other car.
Furthermore, the Spyder 918 concept involves a consistent use of the internal combustion engine and electric drive, which enables further optimization of the dynamic properties.
Porsche stands are among the most visited ones at all important car exhibitions, and it is no surprise why. Loyalty to the traditions of high quality and the original, innovative ideas that the Porsche Company has been implementing in its models for over 50 years, do not leave anyone indifferent. Porsche is not only attractive because of its convincing victories in the global car races. It has also been, and remains, the benchmark of a road sports car: stable, elegant and prestigious.
HARMONY OF LIFE:
Map of Flying Stars 2014
Text: Natascha Engel
Feng shui is a scientific teaching of how to be in harmony with the environment and its application in everyday life. This science attracts architects, designers, real estate agents and psychologists, mostly because it is easier to take in a premises built according to feng shui and people unconsciously feel much more comfortable there. But feng shui is also a special way of thinking which enables people to gain a higher level of perception of the surrounding world and to develop a sense of harmony and intuition.
Map of flying stars
In order to bring harmony and happiness into your home, you should first rely on your intuition and understanding of the principle of energies of interaction. You will then have a new vision of everything around us and everything that happens to us. Even if you reshuffle your home according to all the recommendations, and place talismans and charms according to all the rules, it will not make you automatically healthy, successful and happy. You need to try to want to develop and move forward. Nevertheless, correct interaction of energy flows will undoubtedly improve the ecology at home or at work and will inspire you to make sure that the efforts are not wasted in the space, but follow the given vector. Feng shui requires conscious self-help, and the understanding of classic principles of energies of interaction will make you more flexible, sensitive and intuitive. It is much more pleasant and simpler to live and work in a harmoniously organized space. All your positive efforts to maintain the harmony of nature will be accumulated and work solely for you.
The Flying Stars of the year should be taken into consideration during the harmonization of space, as they have the most significant impact on us. It is also necessary to remember that in China the new year does not begin on 1 January, but on 4-5 February, and the beginning of the month is not on the 1st, but one of the days from the 4th to 8th. To calculate the date of beginning of a month or year, please see the Chinese solar agricultural calendar.
The map of Flying Stars contains vitally necessary information in feng shui, because it helps to adjust the living space depending on the stars that change their position in the sky every year. It is best to change feng shui at home or at work according to the position of stars, to enhance positive energy and neutralise negative energy.
It is an ancient science that is based on the principles of the five elements, eight trigrams, Lo Shu rooms and twenty-four mountains, to analyse and determine points of positive and negative energy in space. This is one of the most accurate and effective practices of feng shui. The principle of Flying Stars means that the numbers corresponding to the positive or negative energy are written in a 9×9 grid. Bedrooms and living areas should be located in places where there are favourable stars and must contain amulets and symbols enhancing the positive impact of stars.
As to the places where negative stars are concentrated, everything must be done to suppress their impact.
In order to determine the position of the Flying Stars correctly, you need a very good compass.
The favourable stars are:
1st. Star of Good Luck. Element: water. It helps to achieve success in competitions and stimulates career.
4th. Star of Love. Element: tree. It enhances romantic feelings and stimulates personal life. It has a positive effect on the people of creative professions, especially poets and writers.
6th. Star of Force. Element: metal. It helps to achieve success and brings good luck at work. It is particularly beneficial for people with certain power.
8th. Star of Money. Element: earth. It symbolizes good luck, prosperity and success. This is the luckiest of all favourable stars.
The following stars are negative:
2nd. Star of Illness. Element: earth. It provokes the development of diseases and poor health.
3rd. Star of Disputes. Element: tree. An extremely negative star. It provokes disputes, lawsuits, family quarrels and divorce. It can bring confusion to a team at work.
5th. Star of Misfortune. Element: earth. This star is also called Five Yellow Stars, or Wu Wang. It is the most negative of all stars. It brings all the problems that can be caused by negative stars. It provokes diseases, disputes, financial problems and even death.
7th. Star of Violence. Element: metal. Unlucky star that provokes robbery, loss and violence.
Each new year, stars change their positions and it is very important to know their location in order to enhance the positive impact of favourable stars and suppress the impact of negative ones.
The position of the Flying Star in 2014 will be as follows:
- Star of Illness will be located in the east.
- Star of Misfortune will be located in the north-west.
- Star of Dispute will be located in the south-east.
- Star of Love will be located in the centre.
- Star of Money will be located in the south, turning 180 degrees relative to its position last year. You should not place your bed or workplace in this area, and postpone repairs in this part of the house until a more favourable year.
- The ninth star will be located in the north. Avoid quarrels and conflicts in this area.
In order to strengthen the impact of favourable stars and suppress the influence of the negative one, you should heed the simple advice of each star.
If your bedroom or study area is located in the area of Star of Good Luck, get ready for good luck at work and business. This fate promises you a rise through the ranks. In order to strengthen the influence of the star, put a figurine of a horse, a dragon or a turtle in this area. But not a wooden one, as the tree will neutralize the energy of this star.
Young mothers and their children, as well as people feeling unwell should avoid the second star, the Star of Illness located in the east. In order to neutralize its effects, you need to put a metal Wu Lou with the symbol of Antahkarana in the zone of the star. If the entrance doors are located in the east, always keep them tightly closed, and put the charms made of wood or metal neutralizing the impact of earth at the entrance. Light fixtures are also undesirable in the area of the star's influence.
The third star, Star of Disputes, located in the south-east, can bring a lot of troubles to businessmen and those who work in this area. In order to suppress its impact, reduce the number of wooden items and items related to water as much as possible. Put bright light fixtures in this area. Red crystals, a hot magic wheel and a flaming sword will also suppress negative energy.
The fourth star located in the centre will be a fundamental star of this year. It will positively affect those who want to get married or have a strong family.
To attract good luck in 2014, put a small decorative fountain or an item related to water in the centre of the house. Pictures of mandarin ducks, dragons and phoenixes will also attract good luck. The fourth star will be beneficial for students, pupils and everything related to studies. Students should prepare for important exams in the central room, and put a figurine of a carp nearby to bring good luck.
The fifth and most dangerous star is located on the north-west. Five Yellow Stars must not be underestimated. We must do everything we can to suppress their energy. Remove all items that may cause fire, such as fans and home appliances, from this area. By no means do not start repairs in this area. Put brass charms and bells there. If there are living rooms in this area, all people in there must wear personal protective amulets all year round.
The sixth star will be particularly beneficial for fathers of families and managers whose office is located in this area. Place items related to financial well-being to ensure career growth and success.
The seventh star, Star of Violence, is a very dangerous star, and you should be careful in its area next year. Not only does it provoke scandals if the zone in this area is weakened, but it can also lead to burglary or other misfortunes. To neutralize its impact, use water to suppress the energy of metal. If your front door is in the north-east, hang a figurine of a blue elephant or rhino opposite it, as they will protect the house from evil influences.
The eighth star is the luckiest of all. In 2014, it will be located in the south. Try to spend more time here and make important decisions while you are in this zone. Put a lamp emitting warm or red light in this part of the house or office. Place charms that bring good luck, like a royal dragon or laughing Buddha.
Like the eighth star, the ninth also brings good luck. Therefore, the same principles related to the eighth star apply to the ninth one. To attract good luck and happiness in the home in 2014, place red charms, a red fiery crystal or a figurine of a dragon in the north.
